Evaluation of my work- Video Production
After the filming was done, we had all the video files together, now what was important was to put it all together in a very professional way. The deadline was for the 1st of April so i had roughly 2 weeks to finish. Once i filmed my last scene, the very first scene in the film with the therapist, i went straight onto the Apple Macs that the college provides to the students and from there went to Adobe Premiere Pro to create my film and edited the ending of the film first, working my way backwards, editing the last scene i filmed, last. Editing the production was very satisfying to me as they all just magically clicked together and i had a blast doing it. I went onto genyoutube and downloaded mp3 files of non copyrighted music and sound effects that i could use in my film to help fit the genre. After showing my college lecturer my work, he suggested that i change the filter of the dream sequences that cuts in and out of the film, so i decided on a dark orange tone to keep the creativity whilst making it mysterious and known to the viewer that this is a dream and isn't the usual colours of real life. I am happy that he said that as i believe it has improved the films quality. As i was looking for certain music for certain scenes such as the last dream sequence, i needed something that's eerie to listen to and fit the scene, however i couldn't find the right audio to use. So i decided to think outside the box and make my own instead of using somebody else's work. I put the camera next to my guitar and played the last two strings, slowly sliding up the fretboard, this sounded quite unsettling and was just what i needed to have in my film. It ended up fitting quite well, i had negative feedback from my friends about my choice but i was happy with what i had done. I then went to photoshop and made a picture for the egg baldy production company to add to the beginning of the film as i needed to give the film that bit more professionalism and i believe that it worked and looked not out of the ordinary before we delve into the film. As i was finished, i made the whole video one mp4 file and put it on youtube under the name 'Somnolence' and i was done, i sent the video to my lecturer and immediately got into working on the behind the scenes which consisted of the leftover footage and mess-ups that happened during filming the movie and ended up being an enjoyable watch. The reason i done this was to cut together a series of videos to showcase that the filming of it wasn't entirely serious and consisted of us having fun whilst doing it. Now I have finished the assignment for quite some time, i do have a regret that i didn't add enough music into the morning preparation scene as it was silent the whole way though, i believe a little song could've easily fitted in there and that could've had a bigger impact, perhaps showing a sort of emotion for Elliot's Character. But I am very happy with what i have created and it was all down to the early preparation that i done months before i filmed the piece, i believe i have been very successful in creating the film and therefore, finishing the assignment.
I had a final task to do and that was to take a shot list of the movie to fill out, i had to watch the film again from the beginning and take note of all the different scenes and camera angles. The reason for this is to keep organized of how the film comes across and to remind me how i wanted certain scenes to play out. However, i completed this task after i filmed the movie so i knew after how i wanted the film to turn out like.
I also had to create a diary of the shooting schedule for my film to show evidence of me doing the task. As i completed multiple scenes in one day, id tag them all together as i only filmed when i had a lot of things to film when the time of day was right and the weather was suitable for filming. Eventually, the diary was complete and i was complete with the task altogether.
