Evaluation of The Harton & Westoe Media Campaign


6th Of March 2019- Assignment Set

Firstly, we were assigned a task by a client from a fitness gym in the north east. Before we met him, we had to research about the client and his business. We discovered that he is the head of Harton and Westoe Gym in South Shields and the box clever charity, that gives free training for people who apply and in return, take part in a white collar boxing event to raise money for the selected charity. Through this, The client had raised over £100,000 through the events that he had organized. After a few questions, he assigned us to create three advertisement campaigns, all to promote his business. We all had a number of ideas of what to do,  one being a video advertisement, another being a poster and the last being a social media page, although the business had all three of these things, we decided that they are still the best strategies of advertisement. However, before we could attempt to create anything, we had to go and see what the gym was like for our campaigns. When the assignment was given to us, i felt determined to express my creativity and research more and more about the company in order to find out for myself what sort of style my advertisements should go for. My strategy was to go for something fast pace but informative so it can show off the gym and its facilities. The plan was simple enough to complete, all we had to do was see the gym for ourselves to further our knowledge of the place.


1st Of April 2019- Visiting the Gym

We met up at Sunderland interchange and got two buses through to south shields and walked into the gym, we were met by the client who was already training with another customer, we arrived at around 12:00 and had an hour to film a video advertisement inside the gym before the client was about to hold a class for training young boxers. We immediately went around the gym, looking at the different equipment and seeing how each was used as we needed to use equipment to have on our advert, first off we filmed people on the punching bags and tires, however they didn't make it onto the video due to the inequalities in timing within the tempo of the video. I then filmed the client training with the customer with his permission, sparring in the ring and doing circuit exercises as this intensity was perfect for the video. We then attempted to practice punches with correct padding and they ended up onto the video along side the use of the ropes, treadmills and bikes. Before we were about to leave we realized we didn't have many establishing/ long shots to show what the gym actually looked like, so we decided before we go to film the different signs on the walls and standing on tall corners and took shots of the room, however by the time we left, we forgot to film the outside of the gym so we didn't get an establishing shot of the building, which may or may not have made it onto the video. I was happy with the footage that we managed to get as i thought it would suit my idea for the video advertisement with something upbeat whilst being informative at the same time, showing off the place to make people think, i would love to join the place, and that was the whole plan. My strategy of going in and getting as much footage as possible was a success and couldn't wait to get it back to college and finish the video. 

2nd Of April 2019- Editing The Video

After i received the video files onto my SD card, i went onto the internet and looked for a non copyrighted song to have in the music video that'll be jumpy and get you motivated into joining the gym or visiting at least, I chose a non copyrighted called Feel Good by Syn Cole because it suited the criteria i was searching for. I then began to open up adobe premiere pro and dragged the files i was using onto the software including the song which i firstly dragged onto the timeline, i then started cutting and dragging different videos together that suited the music and made it exciting and motivational. At the end of the video i wanted to create a little poster or a advert to show the name of the business and necessary contact information which i created on adobe photoshop, which i then saved and dragged onto the end of the video, once i had completed the video, i uploaded it onto Youtube a while later. I then sent the video to the company and to my lecturers, i was then a third through the assignment. I was very happy with the outcome to my video and as soon as it was ready i looked forward to showing it off to people in the class, when i realized i felt like this, i knew i had been successful and was effective in convincing people to find out more about the business, i was also happy with my choice to add contact information in the end as it is very professional and is useful to people that want to know how to get in contact. This was the first bit of content that i released and i uploaded it onto my account on youtube here on the 30th of April as i still had lots of time to upload it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWn1UsZj73E.

3rd Of April 2019- Creating The Poster

I then needed to create the poster, i didn't want to spend to long on this so i recycled the advert at the end of the video advertisement and stuck it onto an a4 paper document, as there was space at the bottom, i went onto their Facebook page and took screenshots of the gym as mine wasn't good enough. I added pictures that were clear of what the gym had and has people training to show what they do in there. I asked around and people wanted me to add a blue border around the paper so it could be more color coordinated and i thought this was much better. I then saved the work, ready to make the social media page. I was happy i asked for this feedback because looking back now, i thought it looked too bland and having something to go along with the color scheme was perfect. Yet again i was very happy with the poster and saved it straight onto my desktop ready to be uploaded. I think the poster makes the gym look modern and open, there is no age limit or requires, you can just head in straight away, and thats why i designed it that way so that when people were to look at the poster, they are taken straight to the point that it is a boxing club and the modern and easy looking design makes it look like it should be easy enough to visit and to get in touch with the people running it. I believe the second piece of content was also a major success and was effective to the public, as people in the class liked the look and got what it was trying to sell. I then uploaded the poster onto my blogger to show off my work to the people that view my work.



2nd Of May 2019- Creating The Social Media


As i had some time to create and upload the adverts, i waited until it needed to be done. By the time i was about to hand in the assignment, i opened twitter, as this was there less commonly used platform, and created a social media page as i was hoping to attract a bigger audience for the gym. I wasn't sure how i was going to attract a bigger audience so i followed a lot of famous boxers and the official page itself. The page was going to be used to be a bit of advertisement to post updates on the gym and motivate people to come into the gym. I then uploaded the poster and the video advertisement for the 'new' audience to see. I then had to rename the page so that it included my name so it wouldnt cause problems getting onto the official site for the boxing club as the owner asked our lecturer to change the names as people were confusing our accounts with the official page, so i then named it the unofficial page. I then emailed the link to the lecturers and then i was done with making the campaigns. After this i though i had created another effective piece of content, although i am still yet to gain followers, it has all the necessary posts to let the viewer know exactly what it is before they delve further into the business via other links. I believed that this looked like a professional page and that it would attract a number of people looking for a gym in the area if i was to expand out my page by sharing it with others, and i was happy with it as i believed that this was good enough to intrigue people. As this was the third and final piece to be created, i was finished with creating content for my media campaign, i then sent the link to the page to the lecturer and onto blogger as well. I was especially happy with the layout of the color scheme as it was dark and blue and matched the logo, and with the edition of the poster and the video, two other successful campaigns, i was happy with my work.



10th Of May 2019- Finishing the evaluation

The final task i had to do was to create a powerpoint explaining all the strategies i had in the media campaign and explain my reasons for doing so, i explained in detail why i done these certain things and justified my ideas as i believe i had a very interesting idea, although it didn't take much thought. It was still effective in creating a great advertisement campaign to expand the audience on this great company. As i completed each slide, i then compared them to other gyms in the surrounding area and compared the advertisements of the two gyms and which was more successful, although it was bias, I was convinced my advertisements peaked it. And as i had that mindset, i knew that some people would feel similar. Once i had completed it, i had finished the assignment and emailed the lecturer the document, feeling fairly satisfied with my work and my evaluation.
